The Association with Growing Significance
The Association of Professional Trainers, Singapore (APTS) has grown steadily both in form and in substance since its formation. With Singapore striving to be the Global Education Hub, the relevance and significance of APTS will grow by leaps and bounds in the coming years.
The uniqueness of APTS lies in the make up of its members. Today we have an increasing pool of experienced trainers from various industries coming together to share expertise and best practices. The monthly Networking & Training Workshops have been running successfully and receiving excellent feedbacks. The spirit of sharing, collaboration and friendship has not only attracted increasing number of practising trainers but aspiring ones as well.
Our next bold step is to play a significant role in contributing towards making Singapore the Global Education Hub. The key significance is to develop our own Singapore brand. APTS is looking into working with government agencies such as the Ministry Of Manpower and Ministry Of Education to develop Singapore’s own Accreditation Programme for Professional Trainers. The Hub identity will be significantly strengthened when Singapore carries authority in subject matters.
With the excitements ahead, I would like to acknowledge that it is the members who have brought the APTS thus far. My sincere appreciation goes especially to the Executive Committee whose selfless and professional contributions have been evident. Let’s continue to grow as an individual, as an association and as a nation.

» About Us
The Association of Professional Trainers (Singapore) or the APTS is a registered society established in Singapore. It was registered with the Registry of Societies, Singapore on 29th April 2006, (ROS Ref. No. 2063/2006) / (UEN: T06SS0121B).
Its objective is to help its members who are professional trainers, or who are aspiring to be professional trainers, achieve higher standards through its programmes that are dedicated to exposing them to a wide array of training practices from all disciplines.
The aim of these programmes is to enable its registered members and guests to network and gain insights into the skills, disciplines and creativity of fellow professionals in the field of training.
The APTS is governed by its members through the elected Executive Committee headed by its President and guided by its Constitution. An Annual General Meeting is held in accordance to the Constitution.
Membership in the APTS is by application on a prescribed registration form and the payment of the required fee and annual subscription. The APTS Executive Committee will decide on the acceptability of each application for membership and reserves the right to accept or reject any application for membership.
APTS Values were; Genuine + Professional + Integrity
APTS aims to establish practices, standards and personal habits amongst its members that are Genuine, Professional and imbued with Integrity, or GPI for short.
This GPI philosophy which the APTS will promote has to become the cornerstone upon which all its members will build a strong and cohesive body of Professional Trainers who are firmly dedicated to professionalism and integrity.
To achieve these goals, the APTS will conduct organised activities that will aim to benefit its members through continuous professional development programmes, exposure to a wide range of professional trainers and speakers, and introduce potential customers to its membership.
To measure its practices, the APTS will also aim to garner feedback and push for continuous improvements from within its ranks in order to set ever-improving standards constantly. |

He is currently a doctoral candidate pursuing his DBA from the University of South Australia. He has a Master of Science in TQM/Business Excellence and a B.Bus in Supply Chain Management. He is a Certified Quality Trainer by Sony Corporation, Japan and a Certified Professional Trainer by the International Professional Managers Association, UK. He is also a Business Excellence Assessor with SPRING, Singapore and an Associate Fellow with Singapore Institute of Purchasing & Materials Management. He received the prestigious Parent Support Group’s award in 2003 by the Ministry of Education and was featured in the Ministry of Education’s COMPASS magazine for his contribution to schools on “World Class Education”. He has more than 25 years of working experience in senior management and in sales and marketing of technical products locally and overseas. He has worked for an MNC, various SME's and was a partner in a precision engineering company. Therefore he can relate to real life experiences in those areas that he is training or consulting. John is the President of the Singapore Branch of The International Brotherhood of Magicians. He frequently uses magic in his presentation not only to enliven the audience, but also to bring out important learning principles in a fun way.

Patrick Tan is a retired senior police officer with extensive experiences in both the routine and Crime investigations in the various Police Divisions. He served in other specialized Units in the Singapore Police Force, such as Traffic Accidents Investigation Branch, Riot Squad Units, Prosecution Branch as a Court Prosecutor and Security Branch as a Senior Officer (escorting) the then Prime Minister, presently Minister Mentor, and other visiting VVIPS. He was a Corporate Security and Fire Safety Manager with extensive exposures in security and fire-safety related in the Hospitality, Retail, High-rise, Shopping Complexes and a Medical Centre. In a few of the organizations, he was instrumental in setting up or revamping the Security Department.Patrick is a veteran member of the Toastmasters International and has extensive training experiences in both the Singapore Police Force and in the corporate sectors. Patrick Tan holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration (USA) and achieved nine Distinctions, including the module on Global Terrorism.

He has extensive experience in International Sales and Marketing of industrial products. In his job, he conducts seminars and training in the various Asian and Middle-East countries. Patrick Ang is a certified trained teacher from the Teachers Training College, Singapore. He left teaching after 7 years, to become an Adman, working with several international Advertising Ad Agencies, which included J. Walter Thompson and Leo Burnett. He is experienced in Advertising practice, Media Sales and Marketing. In 1977 he joined MPH Magazines, and rose to became the General Manager and Director, responsible for publishing FEMALE, NUYOU and SILVER KRIS, the award winning in-flight magazine of Singapore Airlines, and MABUHAY, the in-flight magazine of Philippines Airlines. He was head of the publishing division of MPH for 20 years. Patrick, left MPH in 1997, and is now a publishing consultant. He is the business owner of POD Media Net. He organises seminars and workshops for writers, and is the promoter for Dan Poynter, international speaker and trainer on Book Writing and Publishing. He is also a company Director with Vaughan Hexa, which promotes Green Label envelopes, red packets, greeting cards and stationery made from environment friendly recyclable paper. He is the current president of APTS, the president of the Joo Chiat CC Toastmasters Club, and a member of Lions Club Beverly Hills.

Esther Tan is an educator trained in both the disciplines of physical and social science. She is a licensed counsellor from Harvard University, with a Master’s of Education in Risk and Prevention, in guidance counselling, on top of an honours degree in Chemistry. Rahman is presently an employee of Sanden International Singapore, as a Manager for the Human & System Development Division. Rahman is in-charge of Strategic Human Capital Management, Strategic Planning and Strategic System Development. All these are enabled through the application of TQM methodology. His key achievement was to establish the company’s framework to attain the Deming Prize in 2006. This is a world’s prestigious recognition for the attainment of Organizational Excellence through the application of TQM. Sanden is the first and only company in Singapore to attain this prestigious medal. Rahman is an internal trainer for Sanden Singapore and subsidiaries in the Asian region, training on TQM and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
