The Professional Adult Educators' Community (PAC) has completed a survey for adult educators and the key findings are presented below. This is a great initiative by ESU/NTUC which APTS supports in view of its objectives. An online poll is created as a follow up. You may contribute to the poll using the link provided below.
Extract from PAC
In 2011, we held Focus Group Discussions…
to engage and learn more about your needs and aspirations.
Some AEs called for their contract rights to be secured. Others sought access to opportunities.
In 2012 and 2013, to test these themes…
with the larger community, we ran an online survey and a conversation session.
You were most concerned about improving your skills, knowledge and expertise.
And asked how we could help put you in a better position to negotiate training deals.
What’s Next?
Help us take the next step forward by responding to a quick <poll>+.
The survey will take 5 minutes of your time.
To ensure we hear from majority, we appreciate you forwarding this to your AE peers.
+Poll results will be published on ESU facebook <Facebook: ESU.SG> on 17 April. Polls close on 15 April.

Finding #1
About half the respondents identified themselves as “Trainers” and a third fell between 45 to 55 years old. 1 in 2 had more than 10 years of experience as an adult educator.
Finding #2
Respondents were most concerned about being able to keep up in their skills, knowledge and expertise. Having adequate projects in the pipeline and Negotiating fair compensation for the work I do were their next-most concerns.
Finding #3
Recommendations by peer/ clients appeared to be the most common mode of securing work presently. However, an online portal with information and providing access to training opportunities was perceived as a new source of business opportunity most likely to bring in training jobs.
Finding #4
We asked participants to rank which area would be most helpful for them to be better adult educators.
The most significant area that respondents have selected often as most important is being able to Access continuing professional development opportunities, followed by Being informed of the trends and demands that may affect their profession.
Finding #5
Respondents generally spent the most time weekly developing course materials and the least time handling administrative/finance matters. It was not surprising that most were prepared to outsource administration/finance duties such as “Accounting services; logistics, printing of material/notes, audio-visual aids, procurement of office supplies.”
